Tips on effective interviewing
Four steps of effective interviewing are:
1) Study Resume
and Prepare Questionnaire
The applicant's resume should be reviewed keeping in mind the job
description and job specification.
Next, prepare a standardized set of questions you want to ask the
applicant.
Avoid asking bipolar questions where the applicant can answer from
two choices.
2) Ease the
candidate
The applicant may be tensed and nervous. If you want to know the
candidate thoroughly try to ease the candidate. Begin the interview
session with some simple questions.
Once the candidate is relaxed you can give a brief about the company.
3) Questioning
the candidate
The questions prepared in the first step will guide you here. Additional
questions can be from the answers to your standard questions.
Adopt a policy of not to talk too much. After the applicant has
answered your question pause for a second. This will encourage the
candidate to continue talking.
4) Concluding
session
As soon as the questioning is over ask the candidate if he/ she
has any question or clarification they want about the company or
the job applied for.
Make notes about the interview while it is fresh in your mind, and
take time to assess the applicant's responses after the applicant
leaves.
